This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such all applicants who are appointed to this post will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This check will include details of cautions, reprimands or warnings as well as convictions and non-conviction information. Once appointed, the successful applicant(s) will also be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure at pre-determined intervals during the course of their employment whilst in this post.
Supplying false information or failing to disclose relevant information could be grounds for refusal and could amount to a criminal offence.
1. To undertake Approved Mental Health Practitioner duties, participating in the Shropshire AMHP rota.
2. If not yet qualified, to demonstrate the willingness to train as an AMHP as soon as practicable and to participate on the rota once qualified.
3. Provision of AMHP duties under the Mental Health Act either as the AMHP on duty or as a resource to the integrated team Examples of the duties required:
a. Provision of Mental Health Tribunal reports
b. Agree to the making of a Community Treatment Order (CT) extension of CTO, conditions to be included in a CTO, revocation of a CTO
c. 135 (1) application for a warrant
d. Carry out the role of social supervisor
e. Displacement or appointment of Nearest Relative
f. Request for independent Mental Health Advocate
4. To provide Interventions under the Care Act to offer early help and advice and if required determine eligibility for funded support for individuals
5. To provide Leadership and skill in complex situations and in complex case management
6. To provide advice and information to service users, their families and other professionals
7. To ensure the provision of advocacy to service users and carers where required
8. To provide implement, review and monitor funded packages of care
9. To manage a caseload for people with complex mental health problems and to act as care co-ordinator for a number of service users.
10. Assess the risk to individuals of harm and abuse and act proportionately on any identified risk.
11. To undertake effective, comprehensive assessments of service users
12. To record and document all interventions, using relevant IT systems
13. To follow identify, assess and follow safeguarding procedures for adults and children
14. To take an active part in supervision and development reviews, identifying professional and personal needs and agreeing an action plan to fulfil them.
15. To demonstrate an understanding and awareness of issues related to equal opportunities and anti discrimination and ensure these are reflected in practice
16. To act as a specialist resource to other members of the Team; providing advice and guidance in respect of the day to day delivery of social work services.
17. To contribute to the team team’s duty and assessment rota.
18. Identify and address gaps in knowledge, maintaining continuous personal professional development in line with HCPC guidelines and local policy.
19. To develop a comprehensive knowledge of local resources to ensure the service users and carers are fully informed of the choices available to them.
20. To work in partnership with other agencies as appropriate, liaising and recording communications in line with local policy.
21. Demonstrate an awareness of and commitment to the principles of equal opportunities, confidentiality, anti-oppressive practice and anti-discriminatory practice.
22. To comply with safe systems of work in accordance with the Department’s Health, Safety and Welfare policies and procedures. To take a responsibility for health and safety issues in the absence of the Area Manager or within his/her direction.
