Job Title: Approved Mental Health Professional (Band 13)

End Time: 20:00
Salary: £34.00
Hours- 1.0 FTE (37 hours) working hours 12-8 Monday – Friday. Flexible on start/finish times based on the needs of the service.
Length- initially 3 months, potential for extension
Start- immediate as from the new year
Base – to be agreed but work will primarily be from locality of Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale and Selby and the said candidate would need to be within 1-1.5 hours travel distance of Scarborough.
Job Purpose:
The core focus of this job is to:
1. Undertake the responsibilities of the AMHP as determined by the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007) and associated legislation, codes of practice and guidance.
2. The post holder will be a member of an integrated Community Mental Health Team and will undertake duties required by that role
OR ALTERNATIVELY,
the post holder will be a member of a specialist team, eg assertive outreach, crisis resolution, Intensive Home Treatment Team, learning disability, CAMHS , EDT or adult’s social care team, and will undertake duties required by that role.
3. Provide professional advice to colleagues, managers and partner agencies in relation to the application of mental health law.
Qualifications and Training
4. A professional Social Work qualification; an Occupational Therapy qualification; a Nursing qualification where field of practice is mental health or learning disabilities; Chartered Psychologist.
5. Professional registration with the appropriate body. (HPC, GSCC etc)
6. Approved Mental Health Professional Mental Health Act 1983.*
*Prospective AMHP’s may be accepted in a number of roles subject to 1 and 2. above and supported to train to gain AMHP status.
Experience
7. Demonstrable post qualifying experience.
2. Experience of working with people with mental disorder
3. Experience of working in a community setting.
4. Acknowledged excellent application of social care values and operating within the social model of disability.
Experience of working positively in a changing environment.
Knowledge and Skills
AMHP’s will be expected to be able to evidence the competencies described in the AMHP regulations Schedule 2 including:
1. A good working understanding of the key aspects of mental health law, mental capacity and consent, human rights, children and adults safeguarding and of related law, codes of practice, guidance, policies and procedures.
2. A critical understanding of the social perspectives of mental disorder.
3. A critical understanding of the value base of the AMHP role, and the ability to work within it
4. The ability to work assertively and constructively in a multi disciplinary context
5. The ability to make independent decisions
6. The ability to work in an anti racist, anti oppressive and anti discriminatory manner.
7. Understanding of local and national mental health policy developments
