Salary: £14.43
1. To ensure that the work falling within the Post-holders areas of responsibility is carried out to the agreed time and quality targets.
2. To fully understand and implement all relevant legislation in so far as it relates to the functions of the post.
3. To maintain records and compile reports on all relevant matters prevailing within the district, including monitoring the day to day conditions in the kennels, advising the Line Manager as required.
4. To investigate and seek resolution to complaints and enquiries from the public, and other agencies, on all matters relating to the functions of the post.
5. To patrol the district, including Council maintained beaches, on foot or in a vehicle for the purpose of deterring and/or detecting any breaches of the relevant legislation.
6. To inspect breeding establishments and guard-dog kennels, making recommendations for initial registration and annual retention of registration.
7. To supervise monthly and special markets, including the on-site allocation of non prebooked trading pitches, the collection of fees, the issuing of receipts and the lodgement of ‘pitch’ monies collected from traders.
8. To lift stray/unwanted/injured dogs and impound same at kennels used by Council.
9. To liaise with a veterinary clinic and authorise any emergency only pain relief treatment for any injured stray dogs.
10. To develop and implement an education and information programme aimed at responsible dog ownership
11. To support Community Groups by providing information, guidance and advice as required, encouraging the implementation of an inter-agency problem solving approach, through liaising with the USPCA, the Dogs Trust, Dept. of Ag. & Regional Development, PSNI, DoE, NIHE and any other relevant bodies, while participating in operations in conjunction with relevant bodies, e.g. alcohol patrols with the PSNI, which may involve evening work.
12. To assist, as required, in the organisation and delivery of any enforcement related familiarisation activities for other Council employees.
Education / Qualifications
⦁ Grade C or above in at least 4 GCSEs or equivalent, one of which must be GCSE English Language or equivalent and one of which must be a GCSE in a numerate subject or equivalent.
AND
⦁ A minimum of 6 months’ previous experience experience in a related environment e.g.
enforcement, dog handling
OR
⦁ In lieu of qualifications, you must have at least 1 years’ experience in a related environment e.g.
enforcement, dog handling
Experience
Experience of carrying out investigations and preparing reports.
