The Senior Social Work practitioner in the Child Care Management Team will carry out skilled social work tasks (particularly complex cases) related to assessments, care planning, and the development of support packages in order to promote the welfare of children. In addition, they will provide supervision-level support to Social Worker colleagues.
We will need social workers available in Pembrokeshire to both work in the Haverfordwest based office and to make required visits.
– Social Work England required for this post (candidates who started registration and hold SWE will be considered)
– Min 3 years experience in the role required
– Rate £31.00 PAYE
JOB PURPOSE
⦁ To carry out Social Work tasks (particularly complex cases) in the Care Management Team.
⦁ To provide supervision and support to Team Members.
PRICIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To undertake specialist skilled work with a number of children/young people and their families who present complex problems, as designated by the CIN Manager.
2. To take part in the duty manager rota offering advice and guidance to team members as required.
3. To supervise designated Team Members and assist with their general professional development (see note 2).
4. To assist with and, where appropriate, initiate specific service developments (Including Group Work, Self Help and Support Groups).
Note:
1. The Senior Social Work Practitioner will be expected to carry a caseload to include these children/young people and families who present complex situations and where well developed Social Work practice skills are required. It is not expected that all such cases will be allocated to the Senior Practitioner.
2. The supervision role will include:
i) Directing and managing the social workers’ caseloads.
ii) Promoting staff’s professional practice development
iii) Providing positive and constructive feedback.
iv) Providing daily advice, guidance direction in case difficulties.
v) Co-working in difficult and specific pieces of social work.
vi) Providing professional and emotional support when need arises.
vii) Identify training needs of staff.
viii) Practice assessor and/or practice facilitator for student social workers on placement.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
1. An experienced Child Care Social Worker with substantial Local Authority or Voluntary Sector experience and substantial post qualification experience.
2. Social Work Qualification (CQSW/DipSW/CSS)
3. Registered with the Care Council for Wales
4. Detailed knowledge of Child Care Legislation specifically in relation to Child Protection and Looked After Children and other Children in Need.
5. Be a qualified practice assessor or prepared to undertake training
1. Thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software.
2. Evidence of innovative ability and willingness to take these skills further, coupled with a proven ability to manage complex cases and experience of assessment work. Previous experience of Joint Investigation work would be useful.
3. Proven ability to motivate staff. Experience of student supervision would be useful.
4. Valid driving licence.
