Duties and Responsibilities:

• Have a personal and active involvement in all aspects of the care of Children and young people, seeking to meet their emotional, social and physical needs.

• Promote and maintain an enabling atmosphere in which Children and Young People can prosper and achieve.

• Participate in the admission of Children and Young people and the monitoring, evaluation and review of their progress.

• Actively contribute towards overall care through Care Planning and link working, formulating, participating and involving Children and Young People in their individual care plan.

• Participate in reviews and case conferences as appropriate ensuring recommendations are implemented and maintained.

• Record Children’s and young people’s progress through detailed recording systems as prescribed in National Minimum Care standards and Children’s Homes Regulations (2001).

• Assist Children and Young People through periods of illness, emotional or behavioural difficulties seeking medical or other assistance and support as appropriate.

• Help to achieve the smooth running of all aspects of the home and participate in domestic/household activities as required.

• By the nature of a small home, cooking and household duties will be part of the Care Officer’s tasks in addition to the supervision and training of residents in these activities where appropriate.

• In co-operation with the Registered Manager, develop and maintain good relationships with the neighbourhood and community as a whole, parents, teachers, social workers, other agencies and professional colleagues, as appropriate to the needs of individual service users

• Share responsibility with the Registered Manager for the security of drugs and other medications.

• Will strictly observe the fire precautions and health hygiene requirements, as described in Council procedures.

• Keep such records as required by the Children and Young People’s Service.

• To participate in the ‘sleeping in’ rota.

• Will at all times carry out duties in accordance with the highest professional standards.

• Strict confidentiality in respect of residents, families and colleagues will be maintained.

Cover required for night shifts in our children’s home in Rossington, Doncaster.
• Ensure the discreet oversight of residents at regular intervals during the night or as directed by the officer in charge or other senior officer.
• Ensure the settling down of residents at night, and waking in the morning.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING Willingness & ability to obtain &/or enhance qualifications &/or training for development in this post. Minimum of 3 GCSE’S or equivalent or evidence of other vocational or craft skills to a similar educational standard. Have completed or working towards QCF Level 3 in care of children and young people.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Previous experience, paid or voluntary work, with children and young people.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Written and verbal fluency. Racial and cultural awareness, an appreciation of group dynamics. Creative, sporting or music skills
