Temporary assignment, Full time, 37 hours per week.

This is an exciting time to join Rotherham Council as the Head of Health and Safety, reporting directly to the Assistant Director of HR, strengthening our approach to effectively manage Corporate Health and Safety across the Council.
The Head of Service role is a senior role that will support the development and embedding of our plans and strategies, whilst offering effective management and support to our Corporate Health and Safety team, providing high level advice and guidance across the Council. You will lead on driving the service forward, adding value to the Council whilst further developing the existing strong, positive reputation of the service.
You will have substantial experience of working at a senior level within Health and Safety, providing robust support to senior management in addition to the wider Council, raising the Corporate team’s profile and embedding Health and Safety practice. You will demonstrate experience in Health, Safety and Wellbeing, including successful direct management of resources and services understanding the responsibilities and obligations of a large, diverse and complex organisation ensuring compliance with standards and code of practice. In addition, you will be a Chartered member of IOSH.
Knowledge and Experience
Substantial and successful direct management experience in one or more of the services
within the portfolio of this post, including policy development, corporate/strategic planning and
managing change
Experience of managing people effectively within a customer focused, service delivery
organisation
Successful budget management in a comparable organisation including evaluation of
competing budgetary priorities within tight financial limits
Successful track record of communicating and working with stakeholders and partners
Experience of performance management and quality assurance processes in service delivery
Knowledge of current Local Government democratic processes and understanding of the
political context
Knowledge and a significant understanding of the legislative frameworks and government
policy agendas in respect of this field of work
Demonstrable experience of successful partnership and multi-agency working
Experience of successful project management and delivering services to set standards.
Experience of applying risk management in setting strategy and in identifying and managing
principal risks to achievement of objectives

Qualifications
Level 7 qualification e.g. Post Graduate Certificates and Diplomas with extensive experience in the relevant specialist area and other related areas of work, or a wider range of areas
