The post holder will be required to support the ESW team by working with families to improve attendance rates at school, reduce exclusions rates and ensure Safeguarding.

The role is school based, and does not allow hybrid working. The post is also term time only (39 weeks per year).

The role will require you to work closely with pupils and senior school leadership, comply with Local Authority Policy and support schools with tackling attendance issues. Furthermore, the role will require you to challenge schools on attendance, as well as exclusions, and look at creative and innovative ways in managing this. Part of this role will require you to undertake Court Work and attend Court on a regular basis, in line with the s444 Education Act.

The role will additionally include but is not limited to;

• To contribute to the assessment, planning and review of education cases.
• To establish, develop and maintain professional relationships through direct casework, supervision, with the aim that the individuals identified needs are met.
• To work with other agencies and organisations to facilitate effective service delivery and ensure best outcomes for individuals.
• To work a case load based on a referral process from schools relating to attendance, exclusion and safeguarding matters.
• To undertake court work cases under the direct supervision of a manager or independently in line with the required balance of developmental opportunities, experience and confidence.
• To ensure that all assessments, planning, implementation and reviewing of caseload and decisions and practice are of the expected standard as required by the service. These should comply with required timescales, protocols, policies and procedures and legislation. This includes maintaining accurate, timely and evidenced case and decision making records, reports, decisions and other documents to meet timescales for review in accordance with the service framework, this may include the preparation of specialist reports as required.
• To be sensitive to the needs of the individuals taking into account race, culture, language and religion.

Qualifications
Social Work Degree or Equivalent Qualification
Commitment to gain Consolidation Award by the end of first period of registration
Commitment to gain further Social Work related qualifications to enable progression to Experienced social worker role within defined timescales
National Standards/ Competencies /Professional Body
Register and maintain registration as a Social Worker with Social Care Wales
Specialist Knowledge
Current and up to date knowledge of relevant Social Care Legislation for adults and children’s services / Education.
Local Government Legislation
Knowledge and Experience of working in a Social Care setting.
Practical and Intellectual Skills
Well-developed Communication skills
Ability to write and present reports to a high standard.
Ability to organise and prioritise work.
Proven skills in assessment
Understanding the role, function and organisation of Social Services
Ability to develop key relationships with other teams, services, agencies and organisations
Ability to work independently using own initiative.
