Title: Children’s Occupational Therapist

Salary: £28-£32PH

Purpose of post: To promote, enable and support independence and development, and to maintain health and wellbeing for Children with disabilities to strength based and person centred approach to practice. Working with Children, their families, carers and associated professionals.
Principal responsibilities
1. Work with children with a wide range of disabilities, devising and providing a planned programme of therapeutic interventions, by undertaking environmental assessment of the
Child’s home .The post holder will be responsible for establishing if the Child meets criteria for the provision of service, and to the devise appropriate interventions to support
independence with daily living tasks, including age appropriate personal care tasks and development goals to maximise. 40%
2. Undertake manual handling risk assessments, advising Children, families,
professionals and carers on techniques and equipment and methods of reducing risk or adverse 5%
3. Discuss with children and families the outcome focused care plans from their
assessment to meet their needs and to maximise independence ensuring value for
money is achieved. 10%
4. To be aware of, and to act on identified issues of Adult and Child safeguarding in line with directorate policies and procedures and to seek advice and support where appropriate. 5%
5. To organise any necessary property adaptations with the appropriate involvement of other agencies, to recommend design and to monitor process for the provision of adaptations. 10%
6. To provide day-to-day clinical support for Community Care Assessors within the team, offering guidance on assessments and intervention plans. 5%
Experience
Post qualifying experience including some experience in the field of Children with disabilities.
Experience of coaching/mentoring including practice teaching.

Education and training
Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy. Health Professions Council registration.

Skills/abilities
Able to demonstrate competence in Occupational Therapy practice.
Demonstrable report writing skills.
Able to communicate and build effective relationships with customers, staff, public and other professionals, negotiating and influencing as appropriate.
Able to develop the professional needs of other junior team members.
Able to work to complex and conflicting demands, prioritising workload to meet targets
Able to undertake research and initiate change/development
