Supporting the communications team throughout the upcoming People Powered Southwark campaign. Arranging photo calls and filming opportunities, liaising with partners and case studies, writing communications like social media posts and e-newsletters and other communication jobs as required.

Job Context:
• Southwark is a modern council delivering for its residents in the heart of London. It is a vibrant and diverse borough with exciting and ambitious plans for the future.
• Our external affairs division supports senior officers and members to shape and communicate these plans for the benefit of Southwark and its residents. It brings together the services which support the political leadership of the council, with our communications, marketing, public affairs and policy development.
• The marketing team research, plan and deliver effective marketing to promote the council’s work and deliver change in our local community.
• The marketing team will work strategically with other teams within the division to ensure that the impact of our marketing is maximised specifically by complimentary media and public affairs work.

Purpose:
• To promote the work of Southwark Council and explain its policies to residents, businesses, visitors and other target groups.
• To work with departmental experts to deliver campaigns which bring about behaviour or perception change on matters which affect Southwark and its residents.

Principle accountabilities:
To deliver engaging and innovative marketing elements of integrated communications campaigns which deliver behaviour and/or perception change.
• To project manage the production of marketing material including printed publicity, advertising, graphic design, copywriting and use of digital advertising.
• To present campaign options and proposals to members and officers in an authoritative and informative manner.
• To critically evaluate the impact of marketing work, including its delivery as part of broader communications and influencing objectives.
• To commission, brief, manage and evaluate the work of design contractors, illustrators, copywriters, media agents, photographers, and other marketing professionals.
• To contribute to the production of council publications with high quality copy and photography.
• To manage and develop the distribution of publicity material to selected target markets.
• To provide advice to senior officers and members on a range of communications issues.
• To provide marketing advice to departments about the most effective ways to deliver the impact their departmental objectives require.
• To keep up with best practice in marketing, attending meetings of professional bodies, training events and reading material as agreed as part of the annual work plan.
• To raise the profile of Southwark by developing and maintaining links with relevant external organisations, including representing the council on external groups.
• From time to time, may participate in divisional or departmental projects, and undertake any other duties as appropriate to the post and grade.
