Overall Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Team Manager, you will contribute to the development and provision of a comprehensive social care service within a designated team in the Children’s Service:
⦁ Undertake all statutory duties in respect of children in need, child protection and looked after children.
⦁ Be able to demonstrate an understanding of working with children and their families.
⦁ Manage a caseload of various levels of complexity, involving the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of appropriate action, contributing to the effective application of resources to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and their families.
⦁ Comply with all relevant legislation, guidance, national standards and Departmental policies.

Depending on the successful candidate’s experience and ability to undertake social work practice at its more complex level, including assessment and appropriate management of risks, we are looking to appoint individuals that can provide:
⦁ Casework supervision to other team members within their first year of practice.
⦁ Coaching and Mentoring to colleagues within or working with the service area ensuring professional development and continuous improvement in practice.
⦁ Acting as a resource for staff and management to provide professional advice on individual cases.
⦁ Being involved in research and promoting evidence informed practice.
⦁ A range of solution focused interventions with individuals and families within a re-ablement, recovery model and address quality of life issues.

Essential:
⦁ Knowledge of the range of statutory legislation, related regulations and guidance within statutory children services.
⦁ Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the assessment and care planning process in relation to child protection and working with children and families.
⦁ Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of child development, theories and practice relating to Social Work with children and families and knowledge of child abuse, its manifestations, causes and consequences.
⦁ Knowledge of direct work with children.

Desirable:
⦁ Knowledge of therapeutic intervention in: Parenting skills; Children and their behaviour; Parental attitudes to discipline and child management; Issues concerning specific aspects of the abuse of children.

Specific Skills Critical for Effective Performance:
Essential:
⦁ Skills in assessment and analysis of risk.
⦁ Ability to formulate and implement care plans based on sound risk assessments and ensure objectives are being achieved.
⦁ Ability to produce clear, coherent reports and to give written and verbal accounts of casework issues.
⦁ Ability to communicate effectively and creatively with children/ adults.
⦁ Ability to work as an effective member of a team and to develop effective and constructive working relationships with colleagues within the Department and other agencies.
⦁ Ability to effectively organise work within a framework where time and service delivery targets are set.

Desirable:
⦁ Ability to use Information Technology Systems.
