The Senior Street Lighting Engineer will support the Principal Street Lighting & Furniture Engineer in the day to day delivery of Street lighting and Furniture service including street lighting design, asset replacement, renewal and Christmas lighting using the Council’s Streetscene Term Contract.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To assist in managing and progressing of street lighting, civil or highway engineering matters within an area based or function based team including lead responsibility within the specialist area for progressing schemes in accordance with the programme agreed with the Principal Engineer.

3. To achieve timely, effective street lighting and/or highway and civil engineering outcomes which uphold the Council’s Core Values and meet the challenges of Best Value.

4. a) To deputise for the Principal Engineer as required on a limited basis.

5. To ensure statutory and legal obligations are delivered and communicated in a customer focussed manner, optimising available resources.

6. a) To represent the Council, in conjunction with colleagues, as an expert spokesperson on issues related to the functional area.

7. a) To take responsibility for conducting detailed site surveys to determine the existing infrastructure pre-design and for obtrusive lighting assessments.

b) To take responsibility for the direct management of staff and contribute towards staff training, development and performance. To continually review professional standards to ensure health and external recognition and accreditation of the Unit

KNOWLEDGE

Managing Services and Delivery

1. Extensive Knowledge of up to date issues regarding the legislative, policy and procedural frameworks within which the Highways & Engineering Service operates. (I, T)

2. A working knowledge of IT systems relevant to the Service (e.g. word processing, databases, GIS design/maintenance packages). (I, T)

3. A knowledge and ability to implement equal opportunities in accordance with Council guidelines. (I, T)

4. Able to understand technical issues relevant to complex street lighting, highway and civil engineering projects. (I, T)

5. Awareness and understanding of current street lighting or civil and highway engineering issues, as they relate to inner urban areas and their implications for the future of transportation planning. (S, I, T)

1. A qualification in street lighting and/or highway and civil experience and membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional body. (S, I, T)

2. a) A minimum of 2 years post qualification street lighting and/or highway and civil engineering experience across a range of work areas. (S, I, T)

b) A minimum of 4 years street lighting and/or highway and civil engineering experience across a range of work areas. (S, I, T)
