Plumber Supervisor –
PURPOSE OF JOB:
In liaison with the Responsive Repair Manager/Voids Manager, manage, co-ordinate, support, and develop a team of Plumbers, supplemented by other contractors as necessary, to meet the duties, responsibilities, objectives, targets and performance standards as required.
Monitor all budgetary and financial planning, preparation and implementation, and support a culture of continuous service improvement.
In the absence of the Responsive Repair Manager to deputise in the post holder’s areas of responsibility.
To contribute to staff training, development and performance.
To contribute to the continued development of Quality Assurance Procedures and ensure compliance with those procedures.
To be responsible for monitoring delegated trading budgets allocated to the postholder, bringing to the attention of the Reactive / voids Manager any remedial action required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Manage and coordinate the inspection, specification, prioritisation, preparation, programming and assignment of daily, weekly and periodic work schedules. Ensuring cost effective use of resources to meet service delivery needs.
2. To continually work with team members to ensure professional standards to ensure potency and external recognition and reputation of the Team, maintaining external accreditation with professional engineering bodies.
3. Review and monitor team performance targets and budgets as requirements dictate.
Review the teams and team member’s performance, with particular regard to quality, quantity and cost, daily, weekly and periodically, and take necessary corrective action to set and meet team performance targets; to instil a customer focused culture.
4. Manage the teams’ duties, performance targets and procedures to ensure they are met in a timely, systematic and accurate manner.
5. In conjunction with Senior Managers, manage the provision and allocation of resources, including material, plant, tool and vehicle use. Ensuring that all personnel are managed within the provisions of the Staff Code including recruitment and induction, attendance, timekeeping, leave, sickness monitoring, back to work interviews and disciplinary matters.
6. Ensure the effective employment and management of subcontractors in accordance with the requirements and procedures within Standing Orders, procurement and Human Resources guidelines. Ensuring that adequate post inspections are carried out prior to payments being made.
Qualifications and Knowledge Requirements:
⦁ A recognised Plumbing or Building Maintenance Management qualification.
⦁ Experience in direct supervision of building trade operatives and a good sound knowledge of plumbing/general building works.
⦁ A working knowledge of IT systems relevant to the Service (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
⦁ Knowledge of up to date issues regarding the legislative, policy and procedural frameworks within which the service operates
⦁ A thorough understanding of performance management techniques.
⦁ Able to understand and resolve technical issues.
Skills and Abilities:
⦁ Experience of and ability to plan, manage and monitor varied and complex projects and programmes of work, including ability to act on own initiative and meet deadlines.
⦁ Ability to manage an extensive and demanding workload in order to meet performance targets.
⦁ Experience of and ability to successfully organise and prioritise the workload of the team.
⦁ Ability to use new technology to assist in improving service delivery and personal performance.
⦁ Experience of providing services to customers and being accountable for those services.
⦁ Experience of developing and/or implementing service improvements projects including understanding of Best Value and other quality assurance systems
⦁ Ability to manage and provide positive leadership and direction to individuals and the team, so as to gain commitment and ownership.
⦁ Experience of ensuring the delivery of projects within agreed timescales and with quality outcomes.
⦁ Ability to communicate effectively with service users e.g. negotiations, presenting evidence or advice in a public forum within Hackney’s diverse community.
⦁ Ability to produce and present clear, concise and effective reports, both written and verbal.
⦁ Ability to produce letters and memoranda, which are both customer friendly, accurate and concise.
⦁ Ability to empower and motivate staff and to build and contribute to effective team working in a proactive manner.
