Job Description

Job Title : Occupational Therapist – P03 Adults
Job Category : Social Care – Qualified (Adults)
Location : Hackney Service Centre, Hackney Council
Salary: £23.28

Carrying out re-assessments for people with long term or progressive social care needs.
Responsible for carrying out comprehensive assessments within the community for people in interim accommodation.
Work in partnership with service users, carers, and a range of other professionals and colleagues to produce an Occupational Therapy support package that aims to maximise the service user’s independence.
Responsible for following up a support package to assess its impact and to record contact and case notes on appropriate systems.
All interventions to be face to face.
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

Service management
1. Experience of carrying out effective OT assessments for disabled people and carers including clients with a wide range of needs within a diverse inner-city community.
2. Experience of working in partnership with disabled people and their carers to facilitate optimum levels of independence by making appropriate recommendations for OT interventions (including moving and handling) and reviewing the impact of these to ensure they are effective.
3. Experience of working in partnership with other service providers and producing plans, design guidelines and drawings under supervision, for a wide range of adaptations to ensure a high quality and cohesive service is provided for disabled people.
4. Experience of using monitoring systems effectively to record and store service and performance data.
5. Experience of creating work plans, supervising and appraising staff, managing performance, motivating, encouraging and developing people.

Communication skills
1. Able to communicate effectively, confidently and assertively whether in writing or when speaking. This will also involve presenting complex information sensitively and matched to the needs of the audience and in line with organisational policy and practice.

Personally effective
1. Demonstrable ability to carry out work under their own initiative, in an organised fashion, managing their own workload. In doing this they will be able to prioritise work under pressure, adapt their priorities to changes in demand and deliver to agreed deadlines.
2. Demonstrate a personal and professional demeanour which generates credibility and confidence amongst staff, managers and other stakeholders.

Knowledge of Adult Social Care
1. A working knowledge of the Councils Corporate Strategy, budget strategy and Government directions, the modernising agenda, including Our Health, Our Care, Our Say, the Independent Living Strategy and best value
2. A working knowledge of relevant adult social care legislation, for example; the Community Care Act, the Disabled Person’s Act and the Disability Discrimination Act and related legislation.
3. Working knowledge of the National Service Framework for Older People and those with Physical Disabilities 2001, Department of Health policy directives, the legal framework underpinning Occupational Therapy Services, the aims and ambitions of Telecare and assistive technology and its impact on maximising independence, the CQC Inspectorate standards and Council objectives.
4. Knowledge of current best practice in public health and preventative services, Occupational Therapy and compensatory care interventions.
5. Good understanding of the needs of people with physical and sensory disability and the impact this has on their ability to communicate and function.
6. Understanding of the issues relating to the delivery of OT services to disabled people within a diverse community setting and the range of solutions available to facilitate their independence.
7. Working knowledge of specialist equipment and adaptation options which can be recommended in the homes of people with physical disabilities

Technical skills
1. Working knowledge of a wide range of typical IT tools including database, word processing, email and spreadsheet applications

QUALIFICATIONS
1. A UK state registered degree in Occupational Therapy.
2. A current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau assessment
