Main Responsibilities
To demonstrate the minimum competencies that support Haringey Pest Control Service.
1. To work towards recognised level of pest control competence qualification such as Promotion of Health Certificate in Pest Control, or a BPCA Diploma in Pest Control part 1 or Level 2 RSPH/BPCA
2. To work as part of a team delivering high quality Pest Control and associated services to residential, commercial and industrial premises as well as other open spaces, including the undertaking of pest control treatments as directed.
3. To assist in Pest Control activities in correlation with the Lead Pest Control Operative and Pest Control Coordinator.
4. To assist in projects related to pest control such undertaking surveys, block treatment or sewer baiting pest control works as required.
5. To assist in undertaking pest control treatment in conditions and circumstances which could include filthy and verminous premises and its occupants , biting and stinging pests, dead animals, as well as the general risk of abuse or physical violence or infectious disease from premises clients and other persons..
6. To operate and maintain all pest control equipment necessary for the provision of the service, including the safe use of ladders
7. To undertake relevant administrative duties and to maintain records accurately including keeping detailed notes and plans of the treatment carried out and in the required form, including entry of data onto computer systems as appropriate.
8. Ensure customers are kept informed giving safety information sheets and details of the methods used including pesticides, poison and location used.
9. To ensure all work is carried out using safe working practices in accordance with good practice ( COSHH assessments, product instructions or as instructed) to protect the environment, personal health and safety , health and safety of others, and the property and possessions of customers, when undertaking operational activities.
10. Ensure all poisoning, dead or trapped pests are removed and disposed of in accordance with best practice or as instructed.
11. To carry out any other duties commensurate with the basic objectives of the post, as may be required from time to time.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
General pest control Knowledge
1. General Pest control knowledge including-Identification of pests, pest eradication, proofing and prevention measures.
2. Specific knowledge and understanding of Health and safety risks and action required to ensure safe treatment
Experience
1. Experience in carrying out pest control in premises including lone working and applying customer care standards
2. Experience of maintaining accurate records, either in written format or using electronic equipment.
Skills
3. Meet the physical demands of the job, including:
⦁ wearing protective clothing, incl. respirators.
⦁ Driving between appointments throughout the day
⦁ climbing and carrying ladders, climbing scaffolding if required.
⦁ carrying and operating mechanical and electrical equipment safely.
⦁ entering confined and hot or cold spaces (mostly loft spaces)
4. Ability to manage a demanding workload within required time scales
5. Ability to self-determine the most effective method of pest treatment and control.
6. Communicate effectively, sensitively and considerately with customers from different social, ethnic and professional backgrounds, service users, colleagues and outside agencies.
7. Ability to follow written and verbal work standards, treatment methods, work guidelines procedures and safety requirements.
8. Work as an effective and co-operative team member to ensure that the team and Unit achieve its objectives.
9. Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and its users, including the performance of duties outside normal working hours where required, and respond effectively to changing circumstances and emergencies.
10. Drive a light goods vehicle with either automatic or manual gears (candidates must possess a full and valid UK driving licence)

Qualification
12. The postholder must either hold a Royal Society for the Promotion of Health Certificate in Pest Control, a BPCA Diploma in Pest Control part 1 or Level 2 RSPH/BPCA or equivalent qualification.
13. Evidence of on going training and CPD.
