General description of role
To carry out repair and maintenance services to the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and associated equipment,
including our Grounds Maintenance equipment.
To ensure that all maintenance and repair work is carried out to a high standard and that vehicles comply with DVSA
standards and in accordance with the terms of the Councils Operators Licence at all times.
To ensure that maximum vehicle availability is maintained at all times.
To ensure that all relevant administration work is completed in a timely manner.
You will be working as part of an excellent team in a busy workshop near Redhill. The ability of the Council to provide
the essential services expected by local residents is reliant on having good vehicle availability maintained to a very
high standard.
We are also an MOT test station which carries out MOT testing on Private Hire and Hackney Carriage vehicles
operating within the borough. We also take MOT bookings from the general public.

Top ten duties / responsibilities of role
Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs to vehicles, plant and equipment as directed by the supervisor.
To maintain vehicles to the standard required by DVSA, so as to achieve maximum vehicle availability.
Carry out necessary diagnostic work and specialist repairs where possible.
Carry out MOT testing (Nominated testers only) and assist when necessary.
Attend roadside breakdowns and recover vehicles if repairs are not possible.
Ensure that all necessary information is recorded and passed onto the appropriate supervisor prior to the completion
of each task or working day.
Ensure that work area is kept tidy.
Adhere to all relevant Health & Safety requirements relevant to your working environment.
You may, on occasions, be required to work overtime to ensure that sufficient vehicles are available to meet the
needs of the end users.
Participate, as required in the Councils Performance Appraisal Scheme; observe the Councils Health & Safety
policies and guidelines; participate in training identified to assist with personal development needs.

Qualifications
City & Guilds or equivalent mechanic qualification E
Basic standard in English & maths E
DVSA approved Nominated MOT Tester or prepared
& eligible for immediate training E
Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements E
HGV Driving Licence (Cat C) E

Experience and achievements
Good all round knowledge of Planned/Unplanned
maintenance procedures relating to both heavy and
light goods vehicles (Preferably Refuse Collection
Vehicles)
E
Able to cope in a physically demanding role E
Ability to produce high quality work within specified
time frames E
Experience of maintenance & repair of Ground
Maintenance equipment P
